Letter from Junior Infant teachers
Hi boys and ɡirls,
We hope you are all well and making the most of the nice weather. Remember we were learning all about seasons in school well now that it is the month of May, that means it is a new season – It’s now summer.
Here are some more activities that you can do while you’re at home. J
Note to parents: Please don’t feel under any pressure to complete the activities below as we are fully aware it is a stressful time for everyone. It is not supposed to put anyone under pressure and is more so a bank of activities to help keep your little ones busy.
- This week’s word families: draw a house and put all of the ‘un’ family words in, for example: fun, bun. Draw a second house and put all of the ‘ɑg’ family words in, for example: tɑg, bɑ
- Continue with the counting activities: count up to, and back from 10. Have someone at home ask you questions like ‘what comes before 2 / what comes after 3 / what comes in between 3 and 5. Write out the numbers 1 – 8 on small squares of paper and mix them up. See how fast you can put them in order. Have someone at home take away two numbers while you close your eyes and see can you fiɡure out what number is missinɡ.
- Practice your shape songs:

Try and find some shapes in your home that roll and shapes that don’t. Remember we talked about things with a flat surface will roll and things with corners wont.
- Watch RTE’s Home school Hub at 11 am each day.
- Continue to take part in ‘PE with Joe Wicks’ on YouTube each day. You can catch it live at 9 am but don’t worry if you miss it at that time, they are uploaded onto YouTube so you can do it at any time that you like.
- Write sentences starting with the sentence starters below:

You could also try writing your daily news and put a picture with it.
Can you count how many triangles, squares, circles and rectangles there are in the picture attached?

- Ask someone at home to loɡ onto the website folensonline.ie where you can ask someone at home to help you read the story ‘Splash!’
- Now that we are in the season of Summer can you draw a picture that comes to mind when you think of the summer, you could draw a picture of the playground or a picture of the beach, think of all the lovely things you do when you are on your summer holidays.
- Pick 5 things in your home and guess whether they will sink or float. Then on a warm day go out to the garden with a basin of water and see were you right.
