Health & Safety on Construction Sites inspires 5th & 6th class pupils to become creative!

14th Mar 2019

Today, Thurs. 14th March, winners of the poster competition were being announced at an assembly in the main hall at St. Oliver’s.

5th and 6th class at St. Oliver’s National School, Clonmel, recently participated in a Construction themed poster competition organised by Extraspace Solutions, the offsite modular construction specialist currently on site completing the 40 bed extension to the South Tipperary General Hospital.

The judging panel included well known Clonmel-based artist, Tony Crosse, who attended today’s presentation ceremony at the school. Tony commented, ‘I was pleased to be invited by Extraspace Solutions to be part of the judging panel and we have been impressed by the standard of artwork from the 5th and 6th class pupils at St. Oliver’s N.S.’.

Other judges were from the Extraspace Solutions team: Philip Quinn, Contract Manager (Ireland), Eimear Phelan, Senior Quantity Surveyor, and Paul Moran, site manager at South Tipperary General Hospital.

Paul Moran said, ‘we had over 70 entries, and the posters were so creative and fun that we have decided to pin them on panels around the site at South Tipperary General Hospital, making it a live exhibition zone.’  The site operates a strict health & safety code of practice with ongoing monitoring in place. Paul also adds, ‘we gave a presentation on Health & Safety on Construction Sites to the 5th and 6th classes at the school, which was the inspiration for the poster competition.’

The poster competition with St. Oliver’s is part of our engaging with the local community policy, which is driven by our directors. Extraspace Solutions participates in the Considerate Constructor Scheme (CCS) which aims to showcase the construction industry as a positive experience when it visits your area.
